Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 Flash Gallery Tips and Tricks #9: Put Lightroom Flash Gallery UI into the hidden “Advanced Mode”
OK, tired of editing the XML files to further customize your Flash Gallery? There is an alternative - for style customizations at least. You can put the Web module of Lightroom into “advanced mode” (an “expirmental and usupported” feature - so try this at your own risk) which will expose MANY more customization options in the Lightroom panels.
To go into Advanced Mode you’ll need to use a keyboard combo:
“Control Alt Shift /” on PC
“Cmd Alt Shift /” on Mac
Note the “slash” key. Do the same thing again to get “out” of that mode. If that does not work, then switch to an HTML template, and then go back to a Flash template. It should go back to “standard” mode.
FYI, The same keyboard combo works in Lightroom HTML Galleries too.
Many of the settings that are only in the Lightroom Flash Gallery advanced mode DO NOT “Live Preview” inside Lightroom. You’ll need to “preview in browser” to see the effects. I’ve posted a complete list of the Advanced Mode panel controls and the supported values here:

This is broken in LR 1.1. The key combination just brings up the help menu. Any other way to access the advanced mode now? This was really a nice feature.

It is still there in 1.1 You have to wait a few seconds, then it will appear in the “Appearance” panel

I can’t get this to work in 1.1 - even after a few seconds, the only thing that happens is the Help menu opens. Am I doing something wrong?

Julie,
Are you on a Mac? I’ve verified that it works on PC, but not yet on a Mac. Given that several people are commenting on this issue, I’m starting to wonder if it really does not work on a Mac. Anyone out there successfully gone into advanced mode on a Mac in LR 1.1?

I figured out what was happening on Mac, in LR 1.1. As I believe this Shift+Command+Option+/ did work in version 1.0. There is now a module specific help menu that happens to have the keyboard shortcut Option+Command+? which is the same as the hidden shortcut.
I just changed the shortcut, didn’t really use it anyhow, to Option+Command+H for the web module. You could go set each module specific help page to this same shortcut to be consistent.
Here’s an old Apple article on setting custom keyboard shortcuts.

In 1.2, it appears that you can click the “Help” menu and hold down Shift-Option-Apple, and the “Web Shortcuts” item will change to “Use Advanced Settings” or “Use Normal Settings,” depending on which settings you’re currently in.
Nice.
